
On November 18th 2007, the induction ceremony was held in the Multipurpose Complex. 45 inductees attended along with 150 guest. Ms. Boni Killian, a Phi Theta Kappa Alumni was guest speaker. Boni is currently pursuing a psychology degree and a human communications degree at Lenoir Rhyne College. She plans on attending medical school upon graduating in May of 2008.
Thus far, during the fall membership drive, approximately 100 students have joined CVCC's Beta Eta Delta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. The membership total for the year is 205 as of November 15th. We hope to have 250 total new members by December 31st.
Membership in Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society will open new doors for your academic journey. The organization offers a myriad of opportunities for scholarships, intellectual enrichment and personal development through programs based on Phi Theta Kappa's four hallmarks of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Fellowship.
Part-time students may be eligible for membership IF they have accumulated the total number of hours over two or more academic terms used by your institution to designate full-time status (usually 12 hours on a semester system). The decision to declare part-time students eligible is an option of the local chapter and should be addressed in each chapter's bylaws. Phi Theta Kappa Headquarters strongly encourages the eligibility of part-time students, and currently 92 percent of all chapters allow part-time students to be inducted.
As a Phi Theta Kappa member, you may apply for more then $36 million dollars in tranferable scholarships in which are provided by more then 600 senior institutions.
